The ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) Qualification is a world leading accountancy qualification for aspiring financial professionals in different parts of the World while providing students with the skills, knowledge and values to have successful careers and lead the organizations they work with into the future. ACCA Exams are held four times in a year and these are in March, June, September and December.

Qualification to Write ACCA

You will need:

  1. Two (2) passes at West African A Level [grades A-E] / GCE A Level / Cambridge Overseas Higher School Certificate [grades A-E] plus 3 passes at Senior School Certificate [grades 1 – 6] / GCE O Level / Cambridge Overseas School Certificate [grades A-C / 9-4], OR
  2. Diploma OR
  3. Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) OR
  4. Advanced Diploma (from a Federal University) OR
  5. Matriculation to University (Bachelor or Masters) OR
  6. If you have a recognized and relevant finance or accounting qualification, you may not have to take all of the exams on your journey to membership. You can claim for exemptions.

Those without Qualification that want to write ACCA

For those without any relevant existing qualifications you will need to start at Foundation Level by getting ACCA Diploma in Accounting and Business (RQF Level 4) which when you pass you can start your journey to gaining the ACCA Qualification. And because of what you’ll learn in your Diploma, you won’t have to take the Applied Knowledge exams. You will start at the Applied Skills exams.

Stages for ACCA exams

We have three Stages which are :

  1. Applied Knowledge
  2. Applied Skills
  3. Strategic Professional

Applied Knowledge

The Applied Knowledge exams provides students with a broad introduction to the world of finance and develops their essential understanding and techniques in accounting. These exams are:

  1. Business and Technology (BT)
  2. Financial Accounting (FA)
  3. Management Accounting (MA)

Applied Skills

The Applied Skills exams build on existing knowledge and understanding and develop strong, broad and practical finance skills required of future strategic professional accountant in any sector or industry. These exams are:

  1. Corporate and Business Law (LW)
  2. Taxation (TX)
  3. Financial Reporting (FR)
  4. Performance Management (PM)
  5. Financial Management (FM)
  6. Audit and Assurance (AA)

Strategic Professional

The Strategic Professional exams prepare students for future leadership positions. The courses develop the strategic vision using your unique blend of technical, ethical and professional skills. And you can specialize in areas that best suit your career ambitions. Students must complete both Essentials exams and choose two of the Options. These exams are:

Essentials/Compulsory Exams

  1. Strategic Business Reporting (SBR)
  2. Strategic Business Leader (SBL)

Optionals (Pick Two)

  1. Advanced Financial Management (AFM)
  2. Advanced Audit and Assurance (AAA)
  3. Advanced Taxation (ATX)
  4. Advanced Performance Management (APM)

PLEASE NOTE: There’s no limit on how long students can spend on the Applied Knowledge and Applied Skills exams. Once students pass their first Strategic Professional exam, they have seven years to pass their remaining exams.

Ethics and Professional Skills Module

Students are required to complete Ethics and Professional Skills module which develops in students the complete range of skills that employers told us they need. By introducing students to the full spectrum of advanced ethical and professional skills and exposing them to realistic business situations, students are ready to shine with recruiters and be really credible in the workplace.

Practical Experience Requirement

Being a confident, inspiring and trusted professional comes with experience so to qualify as an ACCA member you must complete a minimum 36 months’ relevant work experience and achieve 9 performance objectives.

Your time in a relevant role and performance objectives need to be signed off by a practical experience supervisor. The practical experience requirement allows you to put the knowledge learnt through your studies into practice in a real work environment.

Automatic Access to a BSc degree in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University

This is available upon a Successful completion of all Applied Knowledge and Applies Skills exams, including passing Financial Reporting (FR), Audit and Assurance (AA) and Financial Management (FM) exams. After this, you Complete and pass the Oxford Brookes University Research and Analysis Project and the ACCA Ethics and Professional Skills Module to get the Bsc Degree.

Automatic Access to MSc in Professional Accountancy from the University of London

This is available to all full ACCA members. You will need to complete two modules (from a choice of four) and one capstone project. You can study online via distance learning or at a local study centre. Depending on the modules you select, you can complete the MSc in around one year.

For all ACCA member this is achieved within as little as 21 months.
